Sandpoint, once a town where legends happened in the past has become a quieter place these days. People still speak of the time of goblins, giants, dragons and other creatures years past and the heroes that had defeated them. Few know where they are these days, but tales are often shared of their stories, youngsters often imagining themselves as one of the heroes of sandpoint.

Perhaps you are one such who thought of him or herself that way.

Still, that was years ago, and in recent years even the traditional Goblin Bounty was suspended due to young want-to-be adventurers getting themselves swept off to sea and the lack of problems with the goblins than.

But perhaps times are changing.

Only a couple days ago, Sheriff Belor Hemlock was putting up posters again, announcing the Goblin Bounty was back - paying 10 gold per goblin Ear and a larger, 300gp bounty for the head of the Licktoad Goblin Chieftain Gutwad.

One of the most prominent places those posters were put up was the Rusty Dragon - an inn ran by Ameiko Kajitsu and frequented by traveling adventurers, youngersters and friends many times. It is the oldest inn in the city, a large wooden building just after crossing the southern bridge into Sandpoint marked by a large Iron Dragon that looms on the roof looking over the bridge.

Inside, several tables are set throughout the room with a hearth in the corner that is on and heats the room. Ameiko stands behind the bar most times, talking with those up there - or seen at one of the tables talking with travelers. An elderly halfling woman - Bethana - works as a maid and server in there though until the last week or so it had been quieter than normal in the inn.

Several pictures align on the walls, of adventurers fighting in great battles and rumour has it that Ameiko has an account or two that she might let others read about from adventurers far away.

You along with your friends are seated at the Inn, with your drink of choice discussing what to make of the Goblin Bounty and the issues of late. The Goblins seem to have gotten their hands on fireworks - and rumour has it even the ability to make their own! This has been emboldening them to attack travelers and merchants near and far making the roads less safe. Unsurprising to anyone, Magmar has refused to do anything as it hasn't affected them yet and thus, as often happens Sandpoint is on its own when it comes to this.

Also in the inn are several other locals - amongst them Sandru a caravaner and friend of Ameiko's, and Koya, an old cleric of Desna who is talking with Sandru right now - also known for her habit of caring for unfortunate children who lost their parents.

As you are seated talking, Amieko walks over towards you and you are again struck by her beauty - not an uncommon thing to have occur to visitors of the Rusty Dragon. Her exotic Tian looks, grace and demeanor all combine to make her one of the sights of the town as she brushes her white highlights away and smiles at you and speaks, "I heard you were looking at taking up the goblin hunt," she begins, "If you are, you might want to remember that the Brinestump Marsh is an easy place to get lost in. You should take cre in there - perhaps find the old warden of the area - Walthus might be able to lend a hand if you go to his place in the swamp off the Lost Coast Road."

(OOC: FIRST)

Merlara looks into her cup of herbal tea, reliving some short goblin encounter, just replying with an absent "yeah"

Valryc grins, and in one of the thickest Varisian accent you've ever heard laughs and replies, "Aye, so I've heard. This does not frighten Valryc Giantsblood! No, we shall go there and slay many goblins for glory and fame, yes?" He then downs his mug, tipping a nod to Shandru and says, "Valryc has been in much harrier place than this swamp and lived. You, my new friends, all look more than capable enough to kill a dozen goblins, no?"

Tasting one of the relatively unknown local brews Alika takes a sip taking in the flavor. She speaks softly "The bounty would help get nice for gifts for the family. Times are getting tough every now and that. That and safety of the village is far more important, every little bit helps. Though it would be wise to get a guide through it first."

"It would seem the wisest choice. I don't think anyone wants to be in that swamp longer than we have to." Alika replies taking another sip

"Valryc doesn't worry about getting lost. Man who lives in swamp will know secret hideout of goblin, no? For swamp, I guess we should be for maybe swimming." Valryc waves over Shandru, "Avast! Shandru, your caravan has been through these swamps, no? What will Valryc and his friends face that isn't easy pickins for Valryc?"

Sandru looks up from his conversation with Koya and looks to Valryc, sighing slightly "Not much call to go wandering through the Brinestump. Like most caravans we go along the Lost Coast Road south of it if we're in the area. Thats where most of the recent goblin attacks have been on merchants. The are is full of plants and such as well as goblins so not much reason to travel there with a wagon or three. Fisherman though use some of the trails there. Snakes and such would be a concern in the area I imagine."

Koya speaks up as well "And keep an eye on the bridges. They are old there and if the goblins do have fireworks no telling what might have happened."

Ameiko looks as you are talking and is called over by someone else, and heads to get them a drink.

[+] Survival
The Brinestump Marsh is smaller than the more famous Mushfrens but that doesn't mean its likely easy travel. Overgrown with tons of vegetation, it can be difficult to move off the paths. Stretches of muddy bogs, and winding waterways can make the place confusing to navigate.

Valryc nods toward Melara, "So yes, swamp person we shall get to show the way. Do you two ladies know much about goblin? Valryc know more about money and government than base thing like little goblin monster." Valryc nods thanks to Shandru for the answer and awaits his companions' replies.

Taking a sip from the brew then pausing Alika shakes her head "Nothing beyond common knowledge. I know a thing or two about carts, brewery machines and things like that but not goblins."

The Swamp is very heavily full of underbrush and so you'll likely want ways to deal with that at times. Fog covers the area often and heavily, making vision at greater distances difficult. Snakes are known to reside heavily in the area and are typically poisonous. Swamps can sometimes be dangerous places to have fires. The rivers there are cold but passable if you want to swim down them if you can keep the muck out of your mouth.

If you have any precise questions feel free to ask and I'll answer as appropriate on skype for your roll

Valryc thumps his chest. "Strong arm and swift wrist is all Valryc needs." He grins and winks at his companions. Ameiko, dear, can you direct Valryc and his allies to the nearest man of provisions and let us in on the way on how to get to this Walthus? Many Thanks!"

"Hope you're not afraid of snakes, there will be some. We should also be careful with fires, not only because snakes are attracted to warmth... Also, something to get rid of the underbrush as we move along."
